Rinki, a mother of two, was forced into the sex trade over two decades ago due to financial hardship. She has been forced to endure the hardships of this profession, burdened by the responsibility of caring for her two children. She also faced health issues due to the nature of her work and the stress of her circumstances.

Her life took a positive turn when she connected with Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC). Regular health check-ups and treatments at our medical camps significantly improved her well-being, allowing her to focus on reclaiming her future. Through AAWC's literacy and numeracy classes, Rinki gained essential skills, which she further developed through our vocational training in tailoring and e-commerce.

Rinki's entrepreneurial spirit flourished, and she launched an online business selling beauty products, jewellery, and dress materials. With guidance and mentorship from AAWC, she navigated the complexities of running her business, from sourcing products to setting pricing strategies.

Today, Rinki has successfully transitioned out of sex work, providing a stable and dignified life for herself and her children. Her story is one of hope, resilience, and empowerment—a testament to the life-changing impact your support can provide.

About Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC)

Established in 1998, Apne Aap Women’s Collective is an anti-human trafficking organization that has served over 6,000 beneficiaries, including women in brothel-based prostitution and their daughters, in Mumbai’s red-light districts. Their mission is to empower trafficked women and prevent the cycle of intergenerational prostitution.

Through their Umeed program, which means "hope," they provide:

  • Adult literacy classes to enhance basic reading and writing skills.
  • Medical care and counselling to address physical and mental health challenges.
  • Vocational training for financial independence.
  • Shelter home placement for women in need of a safe environment.

Join us in empowering more women like Rinki. Your support can make a lasting impact!
