Founded in 1998, Apne Aap Women’s Collective is an anti-trafficking organization that serves the women trafficked into brothel-based prostitution as well as children of Kamathipura, the red-light area of Mumbai. By providing our members with the tools and resources to create a better quality of life, we empower women and prevent the cycle of inter-generational prostitution amongst their daughters.
Over the years, AAWC has successfully worked with over 3,000 women, 450 girls and 300 children. We operate three programmes: Umeed for women in brothel-based prostitution (ages 18+), Udaan for their daughters (ages 5-18), and Umang for toddlers (ages 2.5-5 yrs).
